Help Shape the Future of Alberta Sport!

As Albertans we are so proud of the World and Olympic Champions who come from Alberta - Kyle Shewfelt, Kallie Humphries, Jennifer Heil, John Kucera – and many more.

Now, as a sport community, we need to provide leadership so the next generation of athletes in our province can build from this legacy of excellence. They need our interest and support so we can see more Albertans on Canadian Teams, better use of Legacy venues throughout the Province, a focus on excellence for our professional coaches and organizational capacity for our provincial sport organizations and clubs.

The Province (Alberta Government) has launched a public consultation to determine priorities in sport for the next decade – a renewed Alberta Sport Plan. This is our chance to clearly identify the critical role competitive (club) and high performance (PSO/Training Centre/National Team) sport plays in building a strong sport system for our athletes. These two sectors of the overall Active Alberta Policy are critical to move sport to a new level that will position Alberta as a leader in Canadian sport.

The sports community knows the positive influence of successful athletes within the sport pathway: to motivate parents, coaches, volunteers and officials and to inspire children to engage in sport.

We recognize the importance of building a sport system that gives all Albertans access to sport. The foundation of a strong system is through organizational strength so we encourage you to prioritize competitive sport and high performance sport.

Now it’s your opportunity to make a difference! Please take five minutes to complete the survey (www.tpr.alberta.ca/recreation/sportplan/). Help us build an inspired sport system where Alberta plays a leadership role in high performance and competitive sport in Canada.
